Where Are They Now? Lucita Guerrero, Ernesto Lopez & Blanca Velasquez

As part of our 20th Anniversary, we are proud to highlight former students of Holy Cross Anglican School and where they are today. Through their stories, we celebrate the impact of education, community, and the opportunities that have helped shape their journeys.

Lucita Giselle Guerrero

Lucita Giselle Guerrero is a proud alumna of Holy Cross Anglican School who continues to shine both personally and professionally. After graduating from high school, Lucita pursued an Associate’s Degree in Tourism and now works as a Concierge Agent at Grand Caribe Resort in San Pedro. In her role, she assists guests with reservations, activities, and personalized experiences, ensuring each visitor enjoys a memorable stay. Through her work, she has strengthened her communication, organizational, and customer service skills.

Lucita credits Holy Cross for playing a significant role in her personal growth. She shares that the school helped her become a team player and build confidence in herself. Once known as a shy student, Lucita reflects on how her teachers encouraged her to think outside the box and recognize her full potential. She also developed a love for Math and Reading, along with a passion for helping others and expressing creativity.

Some of her favorite memories include participating in school fairs, playing games with friends, and spending time in the library reading books, sharing stories, and enjoying movie time in the computer lab. She fondly remembers the support and guidance of Mr. Bood and Mrs. Zulma, who made a lasting impact on her journey.

Lucita believes her education at Holy Cross provided a strong foundation in problem-solving, communication, teamwork, discipline, and responsibility—skills that continue to guide her in her career today.

Looking ahead, Lucita is excited about continuing her education. She plans to return to school this year to pursue studies in Criminal Justice and Paralegal Studies, while also working toward completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism. She also expresses that she would welcome more opportunities for further studies on the island. We are proud of Lucita’s journey and her growth from a shy student into a confident and driven young professional. Her story is a testament to the power of encouragement, education, and believing in oneself.

Ernesto Lopez

Ernesto Lopez began his journey at Holy Cross Anglican School in 2010 and graduated in 2019. He went on to complete high school in 2023 and currently resides in San Pedro, where he is making his mark as a young entrepreneur.

During his time at Holy Cross, Ernesto developed strong communication skills that continue to support him in his professional life. One of his favorite memories is playing football with Coach Ali, and he fondly remembers the encouragement and guidance of both Mr. Aron and Ms. Grace.

Today, Ernesto is the proud owner of his own business, Blue Reef Media, demonstrating initiative and creativity as he builds his career. He shares that his education prepared him “pretty well” for his goals, while also noting that incorporating more life skills into learning would further benefit students.

Looking ahead, Ernesto expressed interest in continuing his education, particularly if vocational training opportunities become available on the island. We are proud of Ernesto’s accomplishments and entrepreneurial spirit, and we look forward to seeing all that he will achieve in the future!

Blanca Yesenia Velasquez

Blanca Yesenia Velasquez began her journey at Holy Cross Anglican School in August 2008 and graduated in May 2014. She later went on to successfully complete high school and now calls San Pedro, Ambergris Caye home, though her career has taken her beyond Belize.

Blanca shares that Holy Cross played a powerful role in shaping who she is today. The values of kindness, respect, and a deep love for God were instilled in her during her early years, and she continues to carry them with her every day. She reflects that the teachers at Holy Cross created an environment filled with comfort, encouragement, and confidence, something that left a lasting impression on her life.

Her memories of Holy Cross are filled with warmth and gratitude. From mornings with chocolate milk and pancakes to fruit breaks and even the daily vitamins, Blanca remembers how much the school truly cared for the health and well-being of its students. She describes her time there as an amazing childhood experience, one that shaped her heart and character. So meaningful was her experience that she hopes one day her own children will attend Holy Cross and grow in the same love, kindness, and faith that she received.

Blanca fondly remembers many individuals who impacted her life, including Miss Grace, Miss Linda, Teacher Zulma, Miss Godoy, Miss Daiane, her very first teacher, Miss James, Teacher Brandon Bood, and even the cleaning staff, who she recalls as loving and kind. She also expresses appreciation for Ms. Elsy, who, though not her teacher at the time, was always present as a source of support.

Today, Blanca is a professional chef. She previously served as a Sous Chef at Alaia Belize and now works on a private island in Turks and Caicos, continuing to grow in her culinary career. She credits Holy Cross with helping her develop communication skills and patience, qualities that are essential in her field.

While Blanca shares that she would not change her Holy Cross experience at all, she does express a desire for greater access to higher education opportunities on the island, particularly in areas like university and culinary studies. She notes that with more resources, she would have eagerly pursued those paths earlier.
We are incredibly proud of Blanca’s journey and the way she continues to shine with the values rooted in her time at Holy Cross. Her story is a beautiful reminder of the lasting impact of a nurturing and faith-filled education.
