Holy Cross Anglican School
Holy Cross Anglican Primary School was founded in September 2006 by Francis and Vernon Wilson who were missionaries to Belize from Virginia. Today the school educates over 400 students from preschool to Standard 6 (8th grade). Holy Cross is not your typical school, though it may look so from the outside.
What makes us different?
Our Community. Holy Cross Anglican School is located in - and draws many of its students from – the neighborhood of San Mateo, which at one time won the dubious honor, from the Red Cross, of being recognized as the most at-risk community in all of Belize. Many of our families face incredible needs and, though hard-working, often struggle to provide basic necessities for their children. For those who cannot afford their own, we provide pencils, paper, shoes, scholarships and more so they can attend school.
Holy Cross is not just about providing an education; we seek to provide an excellent education that meets the needs of the modern world. Students are exposed to the world beyond San Pedro in the school computer lab and by checking out books from our well-stocked library. To provide for the health of our students, we provide a nutritious lunch and snacks, dental care and access to volunteer doctors.
We also strive to provide excellent resources for our teachers including classroom supplies, in-service training and the opportunity for spiritual enrichment.
We embrace visitors and volunteers: What we have to offer, we can only give because it was given to us first. This means we rely heavily on donations. Our school was built and is maintained by volunteers and all of our school supplies are donated by visiting families and individuals.
